About the Chef
Chef Kristen's love for cooking is something that was handed down from her family. Both her Mom and Dad enjoyed being in the kitchen and they were the ones who gave those first "cooking lessons". Besides just general cooking techniques, they taught her that food is an important part of family, and made sure they sat down together for dinner almost every night. These initial instructions kept Kristen from going hungry when she went to college.
After graduating from college, Kristen began working as a scientist doing cancer research but never stopped cooking. She was always preparing food for get-togethers with friends. In fact, what she enjoyed most was coming home from work, getting into the kitchen and relaxing as she prepared dinner for her and her husband. Then finally one day it occurred to Kristen; she enjoyed her hobby more than her job. So she left the corporate world behind to pursue her one true passion.
Meals by Day was founded in January of 2003 to be a “solution to the dinnertime dilemma”. As the personal chef business grew Chef Kristen realized she especially enjoyed cooking for clients who had special dietary needs as she has dietary restrictions herself and understands the frustration that comes with it. And though she still enjoys cooking for people, she also loves to teach people how to cook so they are empowered to do it on their own. Thus the culinary coaching side of Meals by Day was born.
When Chef Kristen is out of the kitchen you will find her pursuing some of her other interests. She loves swimming laps with the local Master's Swim Club and competes in sprint triathlons. She practices yoga often and is also a Registered Yoga Teacher. (Visit www.BeBalancedYoga.com for more information.) During the spring and summer she can be found in the garden where she grows a variety of herbs and vegetables. In the fall she is an avid Virginia Tech football fan, and during the cold winter months she works on her various cross-stitch projects.
